SWAT
Swat is 1 year old and is a full blooded white german shepherd. For the whole first year of his life he was neglected.
When I rescued him he was very skinny and was limping on his right leg. He had no interaction with other dogs or with people. Swat was shy and skiddish, but gave me kisses and trusted me since day one.
His first vet visit, he had to be carried into the office. He was terrified! The veterinarian took stool samples to test for parvo and worms. Hook worms were the only thing that was found. Next, Swat's leg was examined. She made him walk around and just by looking at him, she thought it may be his cruciate ligament that needed to be repaired.
He got his rabies sho tand will be xrayed when I can afford it. She put him on Rimydl, an anti-inflammatory for pain.
He weighed in at 66lbs at the vet's office.
Today, he weighs 73lbs and is eating two meals a day. He gets plenty of exercise with our two other dogs and has developed quite a personality. He is dominant with other male dogs (especially if they are not neutered), but rarely shows aggression unless there is food involved.
He is a wonderful dog and will make anyone happy. He is fostered in NC.

Scarlett is a wonderful and exuberant all-white, long-haired GSD. She is very sweet, happy and affectionate with lots of energy, and she loves to run.
She has a reasonably high prey drive, so she should not be in a house with cats or other uncaged small furry creatures.
Although she can be a little dominant with other dogs. She is very submissive to us. She is house-trained and knows some basic obedience commands, and is eager to please and quick to learn.
She has a good loud bark when it is needed. She will make a lovely only dog for a family with the time to burn off that energy at least for another few years.
Not recommended for a family with young children as she might bowl them over often!
If you would like to know more about Scarlett contact her foster at ackle@live.com. VGSR Tag #1837

Male White German Shepherd,
1-2 yrs old,
75 lbs. J.D. was rescued from a remote animal control shelter in Cedartown GA. We saw his picture and his story and rescued him only to find a very thin dog; scared, and defensive. Over several weeks, J.D. has become the elegant self-confident Shepherd we would all wish for! Look at him! He does well with all the other foster dogs in his foster home (8). J.D. seems to have had training at sometime because he responds to some commands, yet his subsequent life on the streets left him w/an ear partially bitten off and an apprehensive demeanor…if only we could ask… A friend said the distinctive ear is indication this boy “has history!"
J.D. is now accustomed to being an inside dog and is “pen trained”: he lives in an air conditioned/heated inside pen and goes outside at regular intervals to have fun with his buddies. J.D. is fully vetted and microchipped. He will be a fine companion to anyone who gives him safety and love (he adores affection). For more information about him, contact veggiebev@bellsouth.net |

Say "hello" to Sinbad.
I'm Special! Please Sponsor My Vet Care
We think that some things happen for a reason. When our volunteer was waiting at a public animal shelter to pick up a different dog, she watched in horror as a callous man dragged a skeletal dog in to the shelter. The dog didn't have the strength to resist---his eyes were vacant as if there was no life left in him. Sinbad's ears were chewed down to bloody, oozing stumps and marks on his legs look like cigarette burns.
When confronted by Animal Control and our volunteer, the man indicated that he "forgot" that he had the dog...This case is currently under review by LA County Animal Services' Cruelty Division with prosecution of the man very likely.
Sinbad is very shy and withdrawn. The light has not come back to his eyes yet, but with the help of our dedicated volunteers, we know we can rejuvenate his spirit. We are in desperate need of a foster home for Sinbad while he recovers from starvation and in his wounds. Can you share your home with Sinbad during his recuperation? We are also seeking donations in any amount to help defray the costs of his care.
UPDATE 12/2
Sinbad is on IVs at our vet to help rehydrate him and help him build his strength. He is only 44 pounds at 2 years old---this is approximately HALF of what he should weigh! All of his teeth are broken or cracked so eventually he may need some extractions as well. Right now, our mission is to get Sinbad stronger and help restore his faith in people. According to our vet, this level of malnutrition and physical damage did not happen over a short period: He is convinced that Sinbad endured sustained and deliberate neglect. We want to be certain that Sinbad receives the very best care possible and we need your donations to make this a reality. Please take another look at this deserving boy and pledge your support. |
Your generous donations help us pay for vetting needy dogs.
